Send Purpose – Women of the World Poetry Slam – Dallas TX 2018

What is Women of the World Poetry Slam

The Women of the World Poetry Slam (WOWps) is a four day poetry festival, in which 96 of the best female-identified poets in slam will compete against each other in order to crown the Women of the World Poetry Slam champion. In this event, poets compete in preliminary competitions (referred to as “bouts”) over two nights. The 14 poets with the best scores and ranks from those days move on to Finals, where one poet is crowned the champion!  (for more info visit the PSI website or http://www.wowps2018.com/)

The poetry slam is March 14-17th 2018 and I am so excited to have earned the spot representing Kansas City through For The Win Poetry Slam!

Last year, through the help of an Inspiration grant from ArtsKC I was afforded the opportunity to attend this festival and represent For The Win Poetry Slam and the great city of Kansas City, MO.  This year, through my consistent efforts within local competition, I have again been named the FTW representative from Kansas City.

However, this year is a bit different from last year.  This year I will have to raise funds to make it there.  This trip has a price tag of $1500 and I need help reaching that goal.

PLEASE HELP!

Every little bit counts.  I am currently taking donations towards this endeavor HERE and there are also 2 shows where funds are going towards this.

FUNDRAISER EVENTS

The dynamic, talented, and lovely artist Teianna Cooper has offered to donate a portion of the proceeds of her show Poetry Over Wine with a Shot of Soul being held at the Prohibition Hall on January 28th to this effort.  Click HERE for more information.  In short – EVERYTHING this woman does is done in excellence while highlighting new and veteran talent in the city.  It is always beautiful! You should DEFINITELY come out!

The powerhouse activist, musician, and beautiful poetess Jessica Ayala has put together a Women of Color Poetry Slam on February 9th at the Uptown Arts Bar where the proceeds from that evening will also contribute to my travel costs.  More information on that event will come soon!

Words cannot express how thankful I am for these women and the many in my community that believe in me.

Please help them help me by showing up to these events.  Not only will your money be going to support a local artist, but you will enjoy some the BEST that Kansas City has to offer!

If you are not able to attend, that is quite alright!  You can simply donate by clicking HERE!
