Charlotte Street Foundation identifies the needs and fuels the evolution of an ever-changing multidisciplinary arts ecosystem, acting as its primary provocateur. We cultivate the contemporary, the exceptional, and the unexpected in the practice of artists working in and engaging with the Kansas City Art Community
Monica Dixon received a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute (Painting ‘11). She recently returned back to Kansas City after traveling, working, and studying in India, Europe, and New York. Her current studio practice encompasses installation, sculpture, collage, costuming, and movement workshops. Pervasive throughout the various forms her work takes is a fascination with exploring the elusive, through seemingly intangible elements of personal reality (memory, pain, pleasure, fear, belief, etc.) through sensual experience. Dixon constructs images, objects, spaces, and events meant to embolden people to accept and acknowledge what is uncomfortable or undesirable in order to engage more fully with the physical world.
