CHARLOTTE STREET FOUNDATION STUDIO RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Charlotte Street Foundation identifies the needs and fuels the evolution of an ever-changing multidisciplinary arts ecosystem, acting as its primary provocateur. We cultivate the contemporary, the exceptional, and the unexpected in the practice of artists working in and engaging with the Kansas City Art Community

Lauren Sobchak

Lauren Sobchak is an interdisciplinary artist focused on handwoven structures, fabricated metal sculptures, and pieced artworks. Her work has been exhibited in spaces such as City Ice Arts, Vulpes Bastille, Hearth at Farm to Market, and the H&R Block Artspace at the Kansas City Art Institute. She has worked for several artists and designers, including Paul Mesner of Paul Mesner Puppets INC, Holly Stewart, and Jason Pollen. Lauren graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2014.

Sobchak writes: “The sculptures found within my work have little integrity and rely on constant awareness of space and care. The weavings act as backdrops to those in the foreground when shown together and reference notions of landscapes, architecture, and the figure.”
