CHARLOTTE STREET FOUNDATION STUDIO RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Charlotte Street Foundation identifies the needs and fuels the evolution of an ever-changing multidisciplinary arts ecosystem, acting as its primary provocateur. We cultivate the contemporary, the exceptional, and the unexpected in the practice of artists working in and engaging with the Kansas City Art Community

Matthew Krawcheck

Matt Krawcheck holds an MFA in Painting from the University of Pennsylvania and a BFA in Painting from Kansas City Art Institute. His artwork combines drawing, painting and kinetic sculpture. Krawcheck’s hand-crank projectors use flood lights and magnifying lenses to enlarge his drawings onto walls, ceilings, and smoke screens. In an age where techno-utopianism has become the de facto religion, Krawcheck’s work defies digital supremacy. It revisits pre-digital projection methods and explores ways of transforming drawing and painting into media of mass-communication. Krawcheck moved to Kansas in 2012 when he was awarded an Artist in Residence position with the University of Kansas. He has taught art at the University of Kansas, the University of Missouri Kansas City, Johnson County Community College, Indian River State College, and the now defunct Art Institutes International of Kansas City. Krawcheck lives in Overland Park with his wife Sarah and their 16-month old daughter Bernice.
