Charlotte Street Foundation identifies the needs and fuels the evolution of an ever-changing multidisciplinary arts ecosystem, acting as its primary provocateur. We cultivate the contemporary, the exceptional, and the unexpected in the practice of artists working in and engaging with the Kansas City Art Community
My solo show CONFECTIONARY debuts at Plug Projects in conjunction with the group show Shape Shifters. Opening reception will be July 18th from 6-9pm.
Because of my interest in the overlooked debris of the city, I strive to understand the anomalies of the urban landscape I inhabit. Through my documentation of patterns in cryptic sidewalk markings, window reflections, neon signs and discarded debris, I begin to investigate the ambiguity of what we recognize as mundane. I bring these experiences into my studio to further dissect their meaning. The physicality of drawing, painting, and collage emphasizes the curious nature of my findings, which eventually leads to a transformative vocabulary of these encounters. From these practices I am continually building a new, oddly familiar landscape, in which many of my works become selfreferential, while simultaneously forging a new orientation between the viewer’s experience and my own.
Confectionary is a culmination of my two years in the Charlotte Street Urban Culture Project residency, in which my studio was situated on the 6th floor of Town Pavilion, an office building located in downtown Kansas City.
Hope to see you there!
