Charlotte Street Foundation identifies the needs and fuels the evolution of an ever-changing multidisciplinary arts ecosystem, acting as its primary provocateur. We cultivate the contemporary, the exceptional, and the unexpected in the practice of artists working in and engaging with the Kansas City Art Community
A couple weeks ago I ventured to Matfield Green KS, where I am invited to hold a solo show in late 2014. The space is called The Bank (not to be confused with Bank Projects in St. Louis) located just south of The Gallery at Pioneer Bluffs on highway 177. Matfield Green, with a population of only 50 people, is a new hub for artist residencies and exhibitions, that founder Ton Haak hopes to compare to the community of Marfa TX. The Bank focuses on emerging artists while The Gallery at Pioneer Bluffs showcases mid-career and more established. In the heart of the Flint Hills, openings attract audiences from all over the world including Germany, France and the Netherlands. Below are some images from my visit, as well as a sneak peak of some ideas / studio shots for the show next year.
“Not a location to deposit or withdraw money, but an inviting place where locals, travelers and visitors meet and where the coffee is always hot and fresh, where contemporary art is on display, and where rare books can be found.”
“Every opening is a huge party, we have Victorian-style vacation homes and renovated rail-house bunkers for artists and guests to stay for the night”
Needless to say I’m excited to go back.
